American idol has a prelinary round where contestants sing before judges that can choose to send them on to Randy, Paula, and Simon. This makes sense where there are 10,000 people at each location, but why don't they filter out the lousy singers and let the better singers get through to the judges?
Are they intentionally letting the worst singers through so they can be made fun of by the main judges?

Because they know that it makes for good t.v. They have to keep the ratings up so they let in a few who they know will get negative attention. That's why I personally love audition time. lol

The reason why is that American Idol is a reality show. They want bad people to be on TV because it helps the ratings go up, and money comes in.

That show is another form of entertainment in itself. How many of the big name vocalists can you list that never been on the show? I know of tons. Im a fan of classic rock so if Rod Stewart beat out Paul McCartney, would I stop listening to Paul? Its really a dumb show.
