When talking to some men at a church, they would often mention this statement "you can get my phone number from so and so". I would often think to myself. Why can't you just give me your own number here and now. Why do I need to get it from another person?
Before I ask, I wanna know your thoughts. Why do people say this even though they're perfectly capable of writing down the number, right then and there? Its weird.
Note: These are just guys who are trying to get information about a particular event or subject, nothing more.

I have said that to people in situations where they clearly have no means to write the number down. Maybe we are in the middle of a crowd, or are about to part company. And I know that we have a few cmmon accquaintences, so I might just say that they can get my number from another person.
But I do see where you're coming from

Yup. They're just too danged important to manage to write down their own phone numbers.
Alternate theories:
1. They're actually illiterate and unable to write down a phone number.
2. Their wives take care of such things, so they don't know their own phone numbers.
3. They don't really want to talk to you, so they're making it difficult for you to get in touch with them.
4. They want "so and so" to see how important they are.
All in all, I'd say find a church where people respect each other enough to openly communicate.
Game playing in church is ridiculous.
That being said, you did have something to write on and with when you asked, didn't you? Or were you expecting to get the phone number with no work and preparation on your part?

Maybe they don't know their own number. Some people have business numbers that they use just to discuss information about a particular events or something, and they have helpers or secretaries to take numbers and information for them. Other than that I don't know.

Maybe they dont want to give out their number, and without making it seem like so, they figure if they say to get it from someone else, it will make it a bit more difficult.

My advice: don't go out with a man from that church, and NEVER go out with a man that doesn't have the balls to give you his own number.

they're saying "If you really want me and my number, you have to work for it because I'm not easy"
They do this to see if the guy is genuinely interested because most times the guy just gives up when she says that.

they dont want to bothered with you, and if they do this they are weak and you know this and you know the answer to the question you post!
and correct them and express yourself to them right away!
