Depends on your price range ...anyway when you like to but PC or laptop you have to think about the next:
The processor how big how better EXP: 2000 or 3050 MHz.
The memory card.....more then 256 MB.
The size of the hard drive.
wireless network build in....with that you dont have to buy or add to the laptop.
Pentium 4 or more the best
..................................................if you wait Little to by the laptop with latest of Microsoft call....... Windows VISTA. next month will be at the stores.

Ive had a Toshiba for 2 years and have never had a problem, its wonderful. You could go into consumer reports under electronics and they'll tell you what the best ones are.

Strongly recommend a Mac. I am not sure if you are looking more for portability or a desktop computer. I have a MacBook and I LOVE it to death. I would recommend a iMac for a desktop computer. Macs are easy to use, user friendly, and do NOT get viruses.
Apple is my recommendation.
