A lot of people will tell you that hypnosis is dangerous. IT IS NOT.

There are several books that teach hypnosis.

The practise of Creative Visualization is really just self hypnosis.

I remember seeing a little $1.49 nook at the grocery checkout teaching hypnosis recently.

I learned self hypnosis long ago in a newspaper article.
Here is a synopsis of the article

It had me beging looking at a spot on the wall above eye level while holding my right arm up. This caused tiredness in my arm and eyes, when my arm and eyes got tired I closed the eyes and lowered the arm, Then I started thinking "My right arm is numb, then allowing the numbness to spread throughout the body. Then just go deeper and deeper until you proved to your self that you were under hypnosis. No matter how hard I try I will not be able to raise my right index finger, then try to lift a finger, If you can lift the finger tell yourself that you are relaxing more and more with each breath,, then tell yourself you can not lift the finger and try again.

When you are unable to lift the finger; you can begin giving yourself post hypnotic suggestions that your subconscious mind will carry out.

The first thing I would do is set up a post hypnotic suggestion to return you to this deep level of relaxion instead of spending 20-30 minutes to get there again.

Then after setting up the post hypnotic suggestions; you would start counting to 5 or 10 and telling yourself that you are coming out of the trance, and when you get to 5 or 10; would will be completely awake and refreshed.

Are you hoping to do some self-hypnosis? Or are you hoping to do a course to learn how hypnosis works?

If the latter, here is a link to a free course.

I'd certainly look at this first, so you have some idea what is available before you spend any money

By the way, the techniques are relatively modern, so Gloria's quoting the Bible is simply an irrelevence. Hypnosis as it is practised today did not exist 1500 years ago

I am a certified hypnotherapist and before I received my certification, I went to www.wendi.com - this is Wendi Freisen's site. She too is a certified hypnotherapist, but her site is loaded with info and she has DVDs and tapes and books for you. One little caveat when looking at purchasing DVDs or tapes for self help purposes - these are generic programs - they have no "roots" - personal attachments to you. They will work, however there are better ones. Ones that are developed by the likes of myself and a few others actual are specific to you which makes them all the more effective! NLP and Hypnosis come together and become part of you....this is what makes change easy!

Have A Great Day - hope I helped!

Waterstones in Manchester have some quite good books on hypnosis. Type "hypnosis" into Amazon's search and see what it comes up with. Try Anglo-American Books (I can't remember their address, but a web search might turn them up), who used to have a wide choice on the subject. I think they are in the south west somewhere.

I'd start with Paul McKenna's books and CDs. They are all available on Amazon, he's well-known and knows his stuff and I have found his CDs really good and helpful. (Amazon features lots of reviews too)
