From below website "Asthma is closely linked to allergies. Most, but not all, people with asthma have allergies. Children with a family history of allergy and asthma are more likely to have asthma.
Although asthma affects people of all ages, it most often starts in childhood. More boys have asthma than girls, but in adulthood, more women have asthma than men"

you can get asthma and/or be born with it. i was just recently diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma-which isn't a form in which you have many asthma attacks-but it normally only shows when you are doing the activity.

asthma is your body hyperacting to things.......a solid antihistamine can change your world.....it can develop at birth, before,,,,in life at any time....and resolve with puberty sometimes...
it can come and go....yes, pollution makes many get it who would of never had it before....
genetics may play a role also....as well as where you live.

You are either born with it or it can develop in you (if you are exposed to secondhand smoke or something similar). But you can't catch it from someone else.
