Well, I must say if you would like to avoid the 'tourist jumble' and general tackiness of many vacation spots then you should look at resorts in Minnesota. Brainerd Minnesota has some terrific vacation spots (extremely high end, extremely low end, and everything in between). Cabins on the lake, boats and jet skis for rent, quiet north woods aesthetic, all the fishing and lounging you could want and a very comfortable 75-100 degree weather in the summer. Very family friendly, and a top notch group of locals as the icing on the cake. Definitely give it a look.
