I know the song isn't a remake by the Cowboy Junkies or Velvet Underground. This version is played in the very beginning when Keppler comes to the scene and later when they're digging up the jane does. It's much softer than the Cowboy Junkies cover and all you hear is la la la la la...

it's such a pretty song, and i am DYING to figure out who it is by.

I found the answer. The song is from the movie Abandon and is by Katie Holmes.

I appreciate everyone who tried to help. Thank you very much.

As for my first commenter, Harriet, I do NOT appreciate such catty, judgemental comments. DO NOT assume that a person who happens to watch a television show does not also enjoy literature. You may think that my question's grammar or content show I am some illiterate imbecile, but perhaps you should reflect on how your completely unnecessary -rudeness- reflects on YOU.

Velvet Underground didn't do the remake. They did the original. It was written by Lou Reed from Velvet Underground. I believe Cowboy Junkies version was on that episode. At least it was at the end. Velvet Underground, Cowboy Junkies, and Lou Reed are the only bands/artists to record that song that I'm aware of. What you heard might've been recorded and added by the television studio as part of the score.

Wow! Katie Holmes? That's surprising. I'd like to hear it sometime.

Sweet Jane: This is the title of a song by the Velvet Underground, which appeared on their 1970 Album Loaded and a number of their live recordings. The name Jane evidently refers to the number of Jane Does involved in this case.

The song was written by Lou Reed, who started as a sideman with the Underground before getting rid of John Cale and taking over leadership of the band. The version of the song used in the episode is performed by the Cowboy Junkies.

The ending with the dentist seemed like a cop-out to me because they never revealed his motive for killing the girls. I was disappointed. However, the secret with the new guy looks like it will be very interesting.
