It really depends on where you are in your cycle, not when you have sex. You should generally wait until the day after your missed period to test, to get an accurate result.
Good luck!

Although some pregnancy tests can work 5 days before you missed your period, I'd wait until *after* you miss your period before you test. If you don't have regular cycles, then wait 2 to 3 weeks before you test. It takes that long for the pregnancy hormone to build up enough in your body to be detectable in your pee.

Unfortunatly i thought even the next day.
I got paniced excited a week later because i wasn't feeling well. I thought my doctor would do me straight blood test and i'd find out. So i called him saying 'doctor i think i'm pregnant'. first thing he asked me was 'when did you miss your period' and i said 'i haven't had my period yet, i am expecting in 10 days. he had a laugh because i was in-patient excited about it! ha ha!
best is wait one month. if period hasn't come for a week i think then you can check the test from the pharmacy.

Don't forget that sometimes people have what is called decidual bleeding (sometimes people mistake this for a period). So even if you think your period started, if you really think you could be pregnant (perhaps you have other symptoms such as nausea, sore breasts, exhaustion) you might want to take a test to confirm.

anywhere from 24 to 72 hours should be sufficient. This is the time it takes the sperm to reach the uterus.
