it's severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.

Causes:

The cause of severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy has not been identified. Hyperemesis may have a genetic component, as sisters and daughters of women with hyperemesis have a higher incidence.

Hyperemesis is also associated with hyperemesis in prior pregnancy, female gestation, multiple gestation, triploidy, trisomy 21, current or prior molar pregnancy, and hydrops fetalis.

Women with history of motion sickness, migraine headaches, psychiatric illness, pregestational diabetes, high or low pregestational weight, hyperthyroidism, pyridoxine deficiency, and gastrointestinal disorders are also at an increased risk.

Some studies have suggested that Helicobacter pylori infection may play a role in hyperemesis, but the data are inconclusive.

I have had that with the last two pregnancies. It is just extreme morning sickness. The doctors said they don't know what causes it but a lot of women get it. I was sick all day every day. I was in the hospital a lot for IV's because I got dehydrated a lot. Also the doctor put me in nexium for acid reflux and all sorts of nausea meds including Zofran which is only used in extreme cases with cancer patients that are on chemo. I am 36 weeks pregnant and have lost 15 pounds since I got pregnant and this pregnancy the sickness was a lot milder than the last.

It's basically extreme morning/all day sickness. I was diagnosed with it in 4 of my 5 pregnancies. The sickness can last thru all 9 months of pregnancy, but typically gets better around the 4 or 5th month. I don't think anyone knows the exact causes, my personal guess is a high pregnancy hormone count. Mine were always very high hormone numbers, like that of carrying multiples (which does make it more likely) but it was always single babies for me.

Because I get dehydrated very easily (in fact, that's how I got diagnosed with it because I was in the ER for dehydration), they gave me a prescription called Zofran to help ease the vomitting. It worked for me.

Hyperemesis gravidarum is a condition characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and electrolyte disturbance. Try Saltines and Ginger ale, even Gatorade. What ever you do just try to keep yourself as hydrated as possible.

Not sure of cause, certain underlying medical conditiond do predispose to condition. Is severe nausea, vomiting in pregnancy leading to dehydration, severe electrolyte imbalances. An inability to keep solid food down, leading to a marked decrease in urine output. This is dangerous. Must be given intravenous fluids as first line of treatment. As a rule with solids start with dry toast. Take fluids orally seperate from solids. Start with tea, ginger ale.

Puking a lot because you're pregnant.

Stay hydrated (clear fluids) and go with the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apples and toast) until you're ready to tolerate less bland fare.

This is well beyond morning sickness, and can really cause complications for the mother.

It's a severe form of vomiting during pregnancy.

Other than simply being pregnant, the causes of it are unknown. Alot of it has to do with family history and things like your diet.

Some things can be done to help it:

-Drink plenty of liquids
-Consume plenty of glucose, magnesium, multivitamins, & thiamine
