I was standing at the bus stop today and a lady approached me and said she was collecting names to send to the President protesting the war in Iraq. She wanted me to sign her partition. Did she really think I was going to follow her all the way to her house just so I could affix my name to a room divider? And who is going to carry that thing to the White House? I would've missed my bus.

Uuuuuuh perhaps if she had shown you a sheet of paper with names on it, known as a PETITION, you might have had an easier time of it.
