for example: if my salary is $50k, how much does the employer pay in taxes? I know how much I pay in taxes to the government, what I want to know is the amount the employer pays.

It is about even, if you pay 20% you can bet they are paying 20% because they have other taxes that you don't like unemployment. It does cost a lot to pay taxes for employees.

Look at the social security amount on your stub, the employer has to also pay the same amount.

plus they have to pay money to the employment department incase you get laid off - I don't know how much

plus they have to pay for insurance incase you get hurt on the job - thousands per year, like $4000 or $5000 or more depending on how much you make, in your case probably $8000 per year

It's really crazy how many laws and taxes and money an employer has to put out, I don't know how they stay in business

The employer matches your social security tax and medicare tax, also pays state unemployment (per centage varies, but is based on your wage) federal unemployment, and worker's comp.

They the Employer, do not pay taxes on what they pay you, they pay taxes on what they make as a Company. It depends on their deductions,profits,& losses. They pay per Income the same as you.

Can easily be 25% of pay.
