I was just sitting here on my computer and a blue screen popped up. I couldn't read what it said and then it rebooted. I typed in my username/pass and when I got back into windows ALL of my files (pictures, music, school papers, etc.) were gone. All of my programs are still installed but all of the files are gone. This happened maybe 15 minutes ago...

I have a new (less than a year old) Compaq laptop with Windows XP Home Edition...

Can anyone help?

I advise two things:

↓ Reboot your pc
↓ Keep tapping F8 (even if it beeps)
↓ A new boot up menu will appear
↓ Select safe mode
↓ Log in as the Admin
↓ See the if files are back
↓ If not a pop-up should have appeared
↓ It asks to run Windows Diagnostic tool
↓ Click yes (accept)
↓ Restart your pc and log in as normal
↓ See if the files are back

If not then I suggest you run a system restore to a few days back.

Sivart makes a good point as well - sorry do follow his advice before a system restore thanks Sivart.

sounds like you have a virus. Do you have antivirus software? If you cant fix yourself you will have to take it in to a computer place. They will probably be able to get your info back.

go to c drive then documents and settings. Maybe you typed your login name wrong. If you did that you would have made a new account.
