1 GB of ram costs around $100, and the price of a good gaming graphics card depends on what you consider 'good'. You can spend anywhere from $100 to $300 or more.

This depends GREATLY on what you consider "good". Right now twin top-of-the-line graphics cards (Such as GEForce 8800 GXT) will cost you a total of about $1300. However, you can get one that will run most games for about $200.
It's a tricky time right now, though, because Direct X 10 is coming out and you want a card that supports it. That will cost you about a minimum $600. If you wait a bit, of course, that price will drop.
RAM is easier. You can get TWO gigs of DDR RAM for about $250.

1 gig of ram is about $150 and an ATI 1900x Crossfire 256Mb is about $1600. You could of course find something much cheaper than that, but then that just wouldn't be gaming now would it?
