My daughter was injured today and the doctors say to pull her off life support. I want to give her a chance to heal. I believe in miracles and the power of God. Where can I find help to suggest to the doctors instead of them just giving up? She is 29 years old and has a 6 week old baby. They do not want to operate, because they feel it would be a waste of time and she will be comotose the rest of her life, anyway. How can they know all this so soon? Do they think they are God?

First, let me say how sorry I am to hear about your daughter.

I am terminally ill. While I am still a ways away from death, I have had a chance to prepare for the inevitable. More importantly, my family has also had a chance to prepare.

Your situation is a little different. You are facing a horrible reality that you had no time to prepare for. The doctors are not trying to play God. I am sure the doctors have performed all of the necessary tests to give you the diagnosis that your daughter is indeed brain dead. If that is the case, keeping her on life support will only prolong the inevitable.

You need to take a little time to say goodbye, but no amount of prayer or modern medicine is going to bring her back. Unfortunately for you, you didn't have a chance to tell her goodbye. Hopefully others can learn a lesson from this. Life is fleeting at best. Tell the doctors you want to spend some time with her and then do what is best for her - let her go. She needs your strength now more than ever. Good Luck.

If the doctors recommend discontinuing life support, it is because there is no way for your daughter to ever get better, sorry to say. I'm sure they have run all the tests necessary to determine her status. Her brain injury is too severe for any meaningful recovery.
It may help you to consider organ donation. That way, others will be saved by your daughter's tragedy. Talk to the ICU staff and the hospital chaplain; they will help you cope.

I am sorry to say the brain doesn't heal, if the doctors recommended something all you can do is accept it or deny it.
