They were told not to take any modern weapons back to 1357 but one man does and it was a grenade, why didnt that explode when they were first being "transported"? Dont they get broken down into tiny molecules? The grenade could have easy detonated.
have you ever noticed how some movie storyline just dont make sense or contradicts?

Ha ha... you're right. I never even picked up on that one. Movie makers must think their viewers are stupid or something.

It is the same reason why the people didn't explode, their atoms were restructured close enough to the original configuration. How long the actual break down and restructing processes take is hard to judge. Once scanned into the system the break down process probably took less than a second The time tracker medalions are much more complex than a grenade and they made it through just fine.

The modern weapons and stuff were forbidden because they would be too suspecious and you do not want to give anybody a hand in altering history by showing them things they should not know about.

The reason they were told not to bring modern weapons back wasn't because they break down and don't work, it's because the past didn't have those weapons and they didn't want to change the past but introducing them to a new weapon that they weren't ready for yet. Yeah the guy was an idiot for bringing the grenade, but only because of what happened. Otherwise, it doesn't really contradict itself.
