Yes, you need a BBT thermometer. You need to know the specific temperature to chart the fluctuations. Might I also suggest ovulation tests? I bought them cheap from early-pregnancy-tests.com

Not a special thermometre per say, you need a thermometer that measures to the hundredth degree not just to the tenth. ( ie 38.01) because the temperature differences are so minor. I got a BBT thermometer on ebay for $6 if that helps.

A Basal Thermometer is recommended because they are a bit more sensitive to picking up a spike in your temperature.

If you're in the US using the Fahrenheit temperature scale, you don't need a thermometer that measures to the hundredth place, the tenths place is fine. If you use Celsius, you may need the extra decimal place.

You just need a digital thermometer that will read to the hundredth degree. Temperature fluctuations during ovulation are really very small.
