The movie should be released because it may help someone through something horrible that happened in their life. It may help others to notice things and speak out to help those children who need it.
People are shocked about the events that happen in this movie, but reality is, this happens to children. If this movie makes ONE parent, ONE teacher, ONE relative, or ONE neighbour more aware to watch out for the children - I am glad that she did the movie, and I am thankful..

Release the thing. This whole issue is ridiculous. She made the choice, her parents ok'd it, it passed the spate of child protection laws in place to ensure that her little brain wasn't traumatized...it is infuriating that we live in a society in which intelligent people can make a concious choice to attempt raise awareness of an important social issue and be slammed for it, while movies in which people are being blown up, stabbed, shot, and horrifically tortured pass the stupid MPAA with flying colors. She was protected, it was carefully thought out, and the rape is implied through the images of the film, not actually acted out. Most of the people who are freaking out over this haven't even seen the thing.
Let's worry less about traumatizing Dakota Fanning, who is a 40-year-old in a 12-year old's body anyway, and worry more about the amount of violence that our society deems acceptable to show children. And we wonder about events like school shootings.

The movie should be released. The tragedy and trauma portrayed in this film is a fact of life for many young girls. Dakota Fanning was not raped in order to film the movie, even though the scenes may (?) look extremely realistic when we see them. This is a similar controversy to the one that arose when Taxi Driver was released by Martin Scorsese in 1976. It portrayed a 12 year old prostitute played by Jodie Foster.

release it so these parents can get the real picture of what happens when they turn there back for a second or even trust a family friend or relative. Because there are sick ppl all over this world and in the family and ppl need to discuss it openly with there kids. Because i was severely molested by a cousin at age 6b years old and my parents never told me about how to fight off people whom try to sexual hurt you. But that was the 80's and parents back then just didn't want to deal with or believe that could happen. But my cousin was sent to juvenile and sent later to prison because he assaulted another cousin later when my mom sister tried to get custody of him because she didn't or wouldn't believe that he could do that to me. But when he raped her daughter she saw the light in 1991. So once he was prosecuted for me he was no longer allowed to go any where near his family. It caused a big family rift between my mom and her siblings. etc. So I think we need a movie to be brought to the for front for parents to teach kids about this issue that has been swepted under the family rug for decades as far back as history allowed molestation of kids to happen.

yes, most people who criticized the film hadn't even seen it. It was filmed in a tasteful matter, in fact the rape scene was done by Dakota alone and then using editing, it was made to look like they were together during the scene. it should be released.

I think it should be released, then it is up to the public to decide what is appropriate or not. Personally, I think it will get this messege out like you are saying and if people don't like this messege, than don't buy a ticket.

Release it. If what they say is true; all you see is her head and hands, very dark room, this will be a very boring scene in a movie.
What about Pretty Baby with Brook Shields when she was 12-13? Full nudity and NO ONE cared.

It should be released. She signed up for the part, and got paid for it so why shouldn't it? It's just a movie, showing reality, so why would should it be banned?

Um, NO. Pedophiles do not need any extra visual stimulation to cause them to harm more children. You need to understand how pervasive sex abuse is to a human being, for the rest of their lives, to understand why this should NEVER be shown. Even if one pedophiles harms one child after watching this movie, isn't that one too many? Think about the negative effects people, these are children we're talking about, not puppies or Cabbage Patch Dolls.
