first of all (and this is for some of the answerers above), mindanao = muslims is a flawed concept. a good majority of the island is inhabited by christians. muslims are very much in the minority.

that said, zamboanga city does have a lot of muslims -- but they don't constitute a majority of the population either. the muslim culture figures prominently whenever filipinos think of zamboanga (which is just as well, since it's a beautiful and proud culture), but in terms of religious affiliation, muslims are in the minority in that city.

i dont think so... i have friends from zamboanga who are serious catholics! i havent been there but the history of the PHilippines would tell us that zamboanga couldnt be a muslim majority region.
why?
because zamboanga was the only province in Mindanao that was successfully colonized by the spaniards. that is why they speak a mixture of their own dialect and spanish. zamboanga was the fort of the Spaniards while they try to colonize the other parts of Mindanao. if there maybe muslims, i think theyre only a minority in that province or maybe living outside the city area.

10% of the Philippine population are Muslims and are concentrated in Central, Southern and Western Mindanao. Zamboanga City hosts a large number of Muslim population since it is near Jolo, Tawi-Tawi and Basilan Islands which are predominantly Muslim. In fact Jolo is home to the Sultan of Sulu which still claims Northern Borneo or Sabah as part of its territory which was leased to the British before Malaysia became a country.
