I am thinking about majoring in Biology. Many people say that you can not do much with a bachelor's degree in Biology? They also say that it is very hard and challenging, more than most other majors, I wanted to know if this was true? Or is Biology just like any other major, like psychology, nursing, or business, just like any other major in general?

I think they are right that a BA or BS in biology is pretty well completely useless in the job market. But I don't agree that it is a hard major. There are swarms of bio majors who do fine who couldn't make it as engineers, chemistry majors, math majors or physics majors. I would rate all those majors as more difficult.

I think biology is just about the same level of difficulty as your average college major like psych, sociology, English or history.

Are you really good at math and science? Then, Biology won't be difficult for you. If you haven't taken Biology, I would advise that you start with an intro course that is simple. You can do many things with a bachelor's in Biology, just do your research and talk to your school counselor instead of listening to other people. Is isn't any more hard or challenging than any other major. Each field has its own difficulties, so you really can't say which is more hard. What may seem hard to one person, may be easy to another. I majored in Biology when I first started college, but I didn't feel like it was my thing after a few weeks. You need to choose something that plays in your strengths in subjects. If you are great when it comes to math and science, then Biology will be a good major. Good luck!

i believe it depends on how you look at the subject .if bio really interests you then it shouldnt really bother you .yeah there is no doubt that a lot of studying is required and time consuming but in the end i bet you tht biology is gonna help u a lot .abt the bachelor degree .it depends which bachelors u want BA or BS i've heard from many ppl that BS is a better choice than a BA since BA is more like a General thing. I was evening having this problem abt the BA /BS thing But i've made up my mind to do the BS in biology or biotechnolog .its gonna help me a lot .and jobs usually require a BS degree .rest its better for u to first see if u wanna go to medical school or any other field then only u can decide wht bio major u want .and there is a lot of scope for bio and other science courses. with biology you need to choose ur specializations when u do ur Masters .so i guess u have a diversity in biology fields . Stil lfor ur satisfaction plz do consult ur major advisor .best of luck.

You'll be just fine if science and math (and chemistry) are your thing. Just make sure you really investigate what you'll DO with that major...would you teach? work in a lab? Find out what you're options are right out of college if you don't plan on getting a secondary degree.
