Choice is a burden from the start. Someone once said "man is condemned to be free." For a long time I didn't understand, but then I remembered that Spider Man quote: "With great power comes great responsibility". To have a choice is to have power, but that power comes at the price of responsibility. "Man is condemned to be free."

Exclude abortion, oh, sure. Choice becomes a burden when you have a dilemna, when you know your choice will have a considerable and possibly unfavorable impact on both sides, but the magnitude of which you can't imagine. Choice becomes a burden when it's handed to you at a time when you don't want to choose anything, willing to go with someone else's decision.

In a more practical way, choices starts to become a burden when there's more than 6-7 for a single decision. There has been studies conducted and they have shown that more choices meant bad choices and less happy persons. This is also often called the paradox of choices: why more is less. You can find more about it on the net, this idea has been pioneered by Barry Schwartz a professor of social theory.

Sometimes it's harder to have a choice because then the responsibility is on you & you're afraid to make a mistake. Sometimes it's easier to feel like you have no choice, then it takes the pressure off, you're exempt from responsibility. In today's world we often have too many choices & options available & it becomes overwhelming. Choice is both a burden & a blessing. It's still better to have free will than not. Even if it is sometimes scary and difficult to make a decision, it's still a luxury to be able to do so.

When there are too many choices. Just consider the student trying to decide what field to go into and so what subjects to take to lead to a possible successful future. It is a HUGE burden.

Life being a game, and most games being abberative, (win or lose a game and your success/happiness is not 100% gratifying) makes burdens & blessings necessary. Niether is total.
