I work at an elementary school and I had three 4th grade boys get in a fight over their football game.
One kept insisting there was no running in football UNLESS you made 5 allies and a blitz.
I have no idea where he got that (but I giggled about it all day after I separated them)-- any ideas out there??

They're talking about playground football. the general rule i used to play is that, the quarterback cannot run unless the defender rushing the QB yells blitz or counts to 5 alligators ie; 1 alligator, 2 alligator...sometimes its was 5 missippis. it just makes it more fair when you're playing 5 on 5 or whatever. its too wide open and its too easy to gain yardage if the qb were to run everytime.

There is somekind of running in almost every single sport out there, and Football happens to be the one with lot of it. Being a former high school football player believe me there was lot of running involved. Specially with the Special teams, and the offense. The QB, RB, and WR are just few of the people who have to sprint for their life to give their team a fighting chance to win.. all I can say is that football and running go hand in hand, and after a game is over... u can look on the faces of players who just burned themselves for the love of the game.. So football lot of running for sure...

i don't know what allies are, but when i was a kid playground rules were you couldn't run the ball UNLESS the other team blitzed, or rushed the QB, in other words. this was because there just weren't enough players on defense to guard against the run and pass both. so mostly, you had to throw the ball, and 2 completions(beyond the line of scrimmage) equaled a first down.

you can run whenever you want as long as you have the ball.

i question if your student was sniffing a glue bottle or white out.. or if his side was losing when he made this "rule" up.

there is no specific "rule" about running except: if the person is down and the ball pops out you can not pick it up and run.

if the ball pops out before a person is down then the ball is fair game *fumble*

only 11 players allowed on the field per side.

First of all blitzes r for defense not offense if thats what ur asking. u have to run in football if u catch the ball and then do nothing its worthless. they must've gotten it confused with something else.
