When forwarding email I am being asked to duplicate the character string in order to stop spam, my PC does not have this capability. How can I get around this or remove it?

You'll need to explain yourself much better than that.

Try using Thunderbird instead - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

I'm not sure I understand you. You're saying that when you try and forward email, it's asking...oh, I see

You want to just do away with that "duplication" all together. I think you're just supposed to copy the characters shown in the weird image. Just type them in. If the image with the characters (I'm referring to those things like what you get when you try to create an email or other type of online account)...then you may want to try a different browser. Certain browsers can't view certain websites correctly (like firefox...but I like it anyway). Try IE, otherwise you may need to try using a library or other online service.
