Have any of you had a talk with a social worker or psychologist because someone had a suspicion you had suicidal tendencies? Do you think he/she helped?

I had an experience with a social worker where one of my teachers thought I was suicidal because I had a bruise on my head where my brother had hit me with a toy and I wrote an essay on suicide written from the perspective of my friend who had an abusive relationship with her father. I used the pronoun "I" throughout the essay, and my teacher thought I was thinking of killing myself. I should've included a dedication to my friend. But I didn't like that my teacher didn't discuss the essay with me first, and the social worker didn't really touch on the subject of the actual essay. Throughout the whole talk, she asked me if I had thoughts of suicide (I did, but I knew she would assume I was thinking of killing myself. Which I was not.) and if I had any friends in my school. When I tried to explain my essay to her, she didn't seem to be listening or understand. I am trying to fight the stereotype of the "typical" depressed teenager for my friend and other teenagers living with depression

This question was also asked out of curiosity, because of the belief that I think has come to be widely-accepted that psychologists and social workers never seem to help. But maybe it was just this social worker that didn't seem to understand.

They dont really help...in the sense of a miracle like you just popp in a pill and your fine.
They are more like guides..they show you ways, and you can decide to follow or just try and get advice on doing yer own thing with less problems

I have once and it is a very interesting story. I was having trouble sleeping and I was a 911 dispatcher. I had an abusive boyfriend and two small children at the time. I went to the psych. for advice and she thought I was a nutcase and I might commit suicide or something. It is normal to have times of sadness when you feel that there is no reason to go on; however, through the years I have realized that life is precious and how are you going to know what good things lie ahead if you are not there to experience them. Since then I have married a wonderful man, I have found myself, my children are almost grown, and life is grand. Just think positive thoughts and they will happen for you. Your are the maker of your destiny.
