Actually, you can purchase Microsoft Office for Mac.....and the software operates very similarly to the Windows version. Not only that, the files you create using Excel, Word or PowerPoint for Mac can also be opened by the Windows versions of these applications with few or zero problems (i.e. changes in formatting, etc.).

The first machine computer I ever owned was a Mac. I loved that little machine, but eventually had to go with a PC because of the MS Office issue: Until a few years ago, you simply couldn't open MS Office files on a PC (created on a Mac) or vice-versa without significant problems (formatting) or expense (software).

I ended up with a steady parade of PCs (always running some version of Windows - too chcken to try an alternate OS like Linux) that never really stood up to the stability or dependability of that Mac and it's OS.

A friend told me that the MS Office issue had been pretty much solved, so when it came time to replace my PC, I bought a Mac (an iBook)........and I love the little bugger. I often use it to work with files I create on my work PC. No problems at all.

I highly recommend that you "take the plunge" and buy one. You won't regret it!!!!!

There are alternatives such as OpenOffice, and you can get MS Office for the Mac as well. Be aware that OpenOffice uses a different font methodology than MS Office, so documents don't always look exactly the same.
