It seems to be swelling up and part of the umbilicial cord is still on the babies belly button just a tiny piece. Should I take him to a nurse or a doctor?

Is there any discharge or odor? I would take him to the pediatrician.

It can take up to 2wks for the full stump to fall off. How old is he? Has it partially fallen off? If there is any redness, or discharge the pediatician can easily clean the area in the office. Frequently the top of the diaper can irritate the area. Yes, you should contact your doctor or clinic if fever is present,or you are dealing with a fragment of the stump that has already fallen off. Meanwhile, gently clean area with an Isoproyl alcohohol soaked sterile cotton ball. Keep the diaper folded down. Good Luck!.

Sounds like an umbilical hernia. Is there anything else going on with him that's unusual? Full/bloated looking belly? Redness of or around his bellybutton? Does he have a fever?
Take him to a doctor as soon as possible.

My daughter had a tiny peice of umbilicord left on her skin and I took her to the doctor and he just put a (looks like a match) on her skin and it burns off the tiny extra piece of skin. Doesn't hurt the baby at all. So YES bring the baby to the doctor or even to emerg they can do it there.

Swelling red with pus? Yes that's an infection.

How much swelling is there? Could it be a hernia?? If you are that concerned, then yes, you may want to have him seen by a Dr.

I would take him to the doctor and get it checked out, if its swelling it doesn't sound good.

how old is he? He probably isn't getting proper diaper care and it's rubbing on it. I wouldn't take him to the doctor unless it was pussing. It's not like an umbilical hernia or anything. My daughter had this too, it came out.
