With the clowns having said their say (referring to those bad answers), any small animal can be "mean", but it depends on the individual hamster. How often did this guy handle them. We have 10 Cambell's Russians (had 30 over the last 2 years) at present. Some are mean and bite no mater what, some depending on who tries to hold them and others are sweethearts and anyone can hold them. It really does depend on the hamster. As for with the gerbils, I'd get them their own cage to start with just in case. These guys are territorial and can be solitary, but not always. We had one called Meanass, and he was, who fought every room mate he had until there were none to put him with, after only a week of living alone he died from starvation (vet couldn't save him nor could we). He couldn't live with any hamster and seemingly couldn't live without the companionship of another. We have a Syrian (large breed) hamster in the cage with each of our Dwarfs as a companion, so try the gerbil and hamster together, but not in the gerbils cage. Use a small box so neither will be territorial (hopefully). Dwarfs (Russians) also "box" when territorial so watch for this behavior. Read about Dwarfs in this site below.

The ones that have Russian mob ties are. They tend to be rather vicious. You can tell them apart from the other hamsters by the little tattoos on their arms. And the accent.

My syrian hamster is as tremendous as my black lab^+^ it is all about the single you get and how you manage it. same to the different puppy. p.s. my black lab hasn't ever harm an element and is very relaxing to play with!

i wouldn't let your gerbils play with any larger rodent as they tend to be agressive towards smaller animals and some larger rodents will figure them to be food. in my experience russian hamsters are just as friendly as any other as long as they have been handled and not treated cruely.

Hamsters are independent critters. They like to be left alone.
