Along with all the great question of humanity, "What is the meaning of life?", Why am I here?", is there a God?", The definition of love come up.
Some people believe it is wanting the best for the other - "I don't care as long as he's (she's) happy."
Other's are so wrapped up in the "Feeling" of love that they just want to be with the other person 24-7. And we all know what that can bring. It got John Yoko'ed.
Some say you have to love yourself before you can love another.
I believe we as a species are currently so confussed about LOVE that we love one another to death. As in The Crusades and The Inquisition. "Jesus loves you and I love you so much that I will force you to love him at the point of a sword!" Before I am put upon by zealots I believe we should love all others by respecting what they believe by first understanding it. Then by wielding the sword of compassion: with dialog, not the flaming pyre. This may be a radical ideaology but no one has the right to force one's beliefs upon another.
I will love the world by making it a better place:

By defining what it does and does not do--as in the following reference:
(1 Corinthians 13:4-8) 4 Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, 5 does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. 6 It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. . .
Then please notice how it rules out any so-called love that has hypocrisy as its main thrust:
(1 Corinthians 13:1-3) 13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but do not have love, I have become a sounding [piece of] brass or a clashing cymbal. 2 And if I have the gift of prophesying and am acquainted with all the sacred secrets and all knowledge, and if I have all the faith so as to transplant mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 And if I give all my belongings to feed others, and if I hand over my body, that I may boast, but do not have love, I am not profited at all.

I don't know if it can be. It's different everytime. There are many different types of love too. I think it's something best not defined. Define the relationship instead.

When everyday is another chance to make them happy... then you are in love.
When every touch is a caress, every smile a significant memory, every kiss a chance to kiss softer... then you're in love.
Love might best be defined as having someone elses best interests a higher priority than your own, and their well being both emotionally and physically, as your guiding rule for making choices in your relationship.
To love is amazing, to be loved... divine

A.J. Ayer and G.E. Moore as well as other logical positivists would say that love is undefinable as are any statements/questions of an ethical/moral quality. This view is called ethical emotivism. When you say, "Love is good" all you are expressing is your feelings about love. i.e. "I like love," or "I approve of love."
Love is not quantifiable through empirical means therefore to ask your question is absurd and there is not a definitive concrete answer. Love is not objective.
What does it mean to love? The answer depends on your perspective. There is no objective answer to the love question.

I think love is best defined as a friendship on fire.

Love is helping others. It is why we are here. Nothing quite comes as close to the meaning of life as helping others. Nothing else makes you feel so good as helping others. This is obviously my own spin on things, but I have yet to find a better definition.
