Right click on "My Computer" icon and select Properties>Hardware>Device Manager
Or from Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager
At the Device Manager window; click on this item "DVD/CD-ROM Drivers" you will find your driver model there. If it's DVD you'll find it written as a part of your driver model.

if it says RW on the drive door or in my computer its a burner .. if it just says dvd drive it may not be a burner just a reader ..

Typically it's printed on the drive door. But you can also check the product specs on the manufacturer's website or Windows Device Manager.

well does it say DVD on the disc tray. also it depends on how new your laptop is
