I heard it was at least 100,000. I wish I could have been there. I think we need to keep protesting as they did in the 60's, until the govt. finally gets it.

All of the usual protesters were there.
Hanoi Jane, who now admits she was "wrong and misguided" to go to North Vietnam and tell the North Vietnamese she would like to shoot down an American plane, put in her usual appearance. The only person missing was Joan Baez. Hmmmm....
I wonder how loudly they would protest if the terrorists were doing to our citizens what they are doing over in Iraq. Of course, that would be President Bush's fault too.
Something to remember - the average person on the street has no idea what the actual strategy in Iraq is. Our President and his advisors have more information that we do and are acting on it so that they can keep terrorists from having a base in Iraq, and also keep those terrorists from attacking our country again. I believe in that regard they are acting on behalf "of the people and for the people."
PS - The exact quote is: "of the people, by the people and for the people." It came from the Gettysburg Address, not the Constitution.

Yes, I attended from Columbus, Ohio along with 60 others on the bus. But there were far more people than 10,000..I'd say 250,000 which is 250 times that number.
Besides Jane Fonda other speakers included Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Danny Glover, Sean Penn, congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, several other congresspeople and many others.
People of all ages, races, countries, states, and religions said with one voice no surge and bring the troops home and hold those who lied accountable. Many of these were older and presumably wiser people.
I think it took a lot of courage for Jane Fonda to speak out given people like that woman above are still calling her names. Now being against the war is mainstream...people like Kucinich had the foresight to see through the lies, the persuasive powers to convince 125 dems to vote against the war, and the conviction to never vote for war appropriations and violate his conscience and stance and he is now vindicated and deserves the support for the presidency for his compassion, foresight, leadership, intelligence, and courage.
There was indeed a contingent of military and their families and I saw signs from two people I met before with sons who died in combat..one I met and huggeed at an antiBush rally about a year ago where he spoke of his son and the other I met when he came to my state via Cindy Sheenhams traveling buses.
We had had a candeleligth vigil with boots in the middle of our circle and this dad sat on the ground beside his son's boots and wept the whole time. It was so sad. Afterwards I hugged him and asked about his son and tried to make him feel better.
I saw his picture on the internet with a big picture of his son, an attractive young man, in a coffin dressed in military garb and it really brought things home and showed a little of the tradgedy of this war as did a huge bin filled with shoes of little children with their ages killed in this war. (see pictures on untiedforeace)
We must stop it and never use depleted uranium weapons again and treat the victims and clean up the environment to the best of our ability though we don't know hw to do either according to military documents.
I enjoyed seeing the creativity and passion fo likeminded people present and over 100 people protested back home and many much bigger rallies in California and such. The one in March will really be so much bigger I predict.
wrepete1951 is right about losing freedoms and having a dictator but it will come at the hands of the neocons and not patriots like us unless we continue to speak up as we did Saturday. Many signs called for impeachment and 911 truth,
To the uninformed blue steel above, who likes using derogatary names, Fonda has not spoken at an antiwar rally in 34 years so this was not her "usual apprerance"..so uninformed.

Jane Fonda was a traitor 35 years ag, I guess some people don't change.
I say this because the way to support our country during a war is to support the military effort, not speak out against it.
Don't forget that this country was not founded as a democracy, it was and still is a representative republic. The founding fathers never wanted a democracy-mob rule.

I am just hoping that were not effected by this. We need to stay in there, at this time there is no reason to withdraw. Things have not gotten that out of control yet. The antiwar protesters look at these wars in such a one-sided way. They don't address both sides of the issue. They think that peace is an easy thing to gain, but the truth is were gonna have peace even if we have to fight for it.

I hate the Iraq war and always will, so its great that people are finally standing up and speaking out instead of keeping their opinions to themselves. This war has been devastating to our soldiers, their families, and Iraqis. It's about time we end it for good before Bush destroys our nation completely.

"Hanoi Jane" should burn her bra (she was GREAT in "Barbarella"!!)
She should also think about running AGAINST ... 'that other woman' ... clinton!!
She has the $$, the influence and considerable 'power'.
MORE Americans - 10's of thousands - continually have to get "MAD AS HELL ..." and stay in the media's face.
NOT Enough people believe or act upon the RIGHT Logic to correct the situation we're in:
"The good of the MANY outweighs the good of the FEW, or the ONE!!"
PEACE & LONG LIFE ...

My only thought is, "Don't people have anything better to do with their lives than that?" If everybody thought the way they do, we'd have lost our freedom a long time ago. With the mindset in this country today, I doubt we'll be free much longer. The United States is growing weaker by the day and so are its people. One of these days, we'll all be answering to a dictator. So, be prepared.
