For everything you ever wanted to know about guiding an aspiring ballet dancer, virtually run - do not walk - to the "Ballet Talk for Dancers" message board:
http://dancers.invisionzone.com/index.php?
You will not regret it. And mention that someone over here directed you there.

I would say definately not for Prima Ballerina. Most Primas start off at three and are en pointe by nine or so. Most Primas are also russian and have attended great ballet boarding schools such as the Vagonava academy in Russia, Kiev Academy of the Kirov. However, there are students who work very hard after starting late and make it into companies and stay at the lowest title, the Corps De Ballet. And ballerinas start proffesionally around sixteen or seventeen, so realistically there is just not enough time.

Becoming a so called "prima ballerina" takes alot more than good talent!. You must have the strive and the innerbition to do it. Sorry for spelling. It doesnt really matter what age you start but it becomes more and more dificult to become a professional when you start at an older age. I started ballet at the age of 3 and i have to work hard everyday to reach my goal of someday being in the NYCB. But all you ever need is the WILL!

of course she can if she is willing to do it. she just needs to put all her effort , besides she is 11 and that´s still a good age. It might be hard at first but if that is her goal she just needs to keep on going no matter what. I am 25 and I started to take dance classes some months ago, the instructor wanted me to take ballet and I said I am too old for that and that I didn¨t have the flexibility because I have never taken ballet before and she said that it doesn¨t matter.... so I beleive your daughter can

I've been takingn ballet since i was 3 and now i'm 13. So i say yes if she really works her butt off but she will also be alot older than everyone else. But then i again i think she would be really behind. She can still do it for fun and for fitness. Good Luck! <33 Emily

Realistically? No... She is going to be INCREDIBLY talented, INCREDIBLY hard-working, have the PERFECT body type and have great teachers and some good luck. Of course, she would need these in any case, so I wish you well. Help her with her dream as best you can. Prepare for disappointment.

well if she is good and she is dedicated and works really hard and likes it then she more than likely will but she has to work REALLY hard and be REALLY dedicated. like i am a dancer and i am dedicated i just danced from 10:30-5:00 and i have to dance that much every week. i love it. even though i don't always get the best parts and all that i try really hard. but please don't push her too hard to dance or anything. i don't mean to offend you but please don't be of those moms that makes their daughters dance. i know a few girls that have moms like that and all of them have quit or are going to.

Let me tell you that I was one of those people. If she works hard she will be able to succeed but if she doesnt work as hard or doesnt want to get it as much as the other people want it then she wont be able to get it. I believe in her. now you suport all the way and she will be able to get it.
