My babies are much older now. When mine had ear infections lying down caused them much more pain that being held, sitting in a car seat, etc. I know it seems tough now, but she will go back to her sweet self soon, and pretty soon you will forget that this was even a problem. Babies grow up so quickly, and my 2nd one didn't sleep much until she was 6 mo. (I work full time). But, this too shall pass. God Bless!

Hi
Firstly I hope she feels better soon, poor baby. Just because her eyes etc look better they may still hurt, as with her ear. Baby Panadol/Neurofen will help ease the pain and help her sleep (always use as directed). Also for ear infections etc covering that ear with something warm will help ease the pain (eg. laying with the sore ear on a covered hot water bottle - check that it's not too hot for baby). Also put something under the head end of the mattress so that she is tilted up bit (this is also good if they have a stuffy head). When it's bed time put her down as usual and leave, she may settle or she may cry for a few minutes. I know it's hard but the longer you leave it the harder it will be to get her back to normal. If after say 5 minutes she's not calming down go back in to her and pat her and try to calm her down. As she settles quietly leave again, this may take a few times. If you don't want to do this then don't. Only you know what's right for you and your baby. If you are happy to continue holding her to sleep then do so. I am a mother of 3, not a doctor etc. Essentially you do what's right for you and your baby. Goodluck and I hope she feels well soon.

When she lays down, her ear is going to hurt more. You might want to think about not laying her flat until she's had the entire run of antibiotics. You can try elevating her crib (placing something stable under the legs of her crib) or elevating her mattress (slipping something under the mattress itself, though I wouldn't recommend this). If it were my daughter, I'd probably end up doing what I did with her when she had RSV... I slept on an incline with the baby on my chest.
Not laying her flat will help ease some of the pressure on her ear when she's trying to sleep. If you choose to sleep with her on your chest, there will be three benefits: she won't be laying flat (easing the pressure on her ear), she'll have the comfort of mama being close by (mama magic is always helpful!), and the warmth of your body will also help ease the pain in her ear.
Good luck and I hope your little one feels better soon.

Since she's sick, hold her and cuddle as much as she wants. If she's still waking up after she's completely, totally better the only way will be for her to cry it out. Since she was a self-soother before, it shouldn't take but a night or two, to get her back to normal.

If you were me, what I would do is just while she is still sick(on antibiotics) I would hold her as long as she wants oyu to. Towards to endof the medication (usually 10 days ) Go back to the normal routine. She won't like it for the first couple of nights, but she'll get abck to it when she isn't feeling so bad. Good luck.

I think that when a baby is sick, all bets are off. It is hard to get your baby to soothe themselves to sleep and it sucks that you may have to re-do the sleep training, but when they are sick you need to comfort them and do everything to make them comfortable until they are better. Worry about her soothing herself to sleep when she is well again.

Try letting her sleep in her baby seat - if she's laying flat, it might be putting pressure on her ears making them hurt. Having a little angle might relieve the pressure on her ears and help her sleep.

This is part of motherhood. When theyr'e sick and need us to comfort them, that's what we do, if we're caring mothers. Then, when they're not sick, it's our responsibility to not spoil them... So, yes... you may need to do this for a bit, then wean her from it again... But she did it the first time... she'll do it again.

Don't ask these people questions like this. Call your doctor.
