yep you pretty much got it right when your in the room for the first audition the one with out Simon and the crew it's a producer of the show and they decide who the a golden ticket and on the ticket is a letter either t or f this letter is recorded and then your classified into groups who are actually good and the others who are not they tell you come back again and they repeat the process then the final one is the bit that you see on TV they narrow it down to like 800 people for Simon and the crew

Some of the people who try out for American Idol can really sing.
While the other can't sing and make a fool of them self on national TV.( what a shame lol)

I KNOW! LoL Thank you so much for pointing this out, I had a friend who auditioned for American Idol and she told me about the other judges she went through...she didn't get to the celebrity judges. But it made me think about how they give these horrible performers false hope just so they can be made fun of on national television by that b*tch, Simon. *rolleyes*

I think that they do that just to get ratings for there show. Obvesiously it must work if they had like 8 million viewers or something like that just the first night.

they are tens of thousands of people who audition for the competition..there has to be a weeding out process...and yes I am sure that they let a few threw in the early stages for comedy value...it is entertainment after all!
