It depends on the pres and on his circumstances. For Reagan it wasn't lasting too long but then someone took a shot at him - and that was a real "shot in the arm" for him!
Bush hardly had a honeymoon at first, then Bin Laden attacked the towers. and his approval rating went waaaay up!
Some presidents can keep the charm up for a while. Some presidents stay popular because of incidents such as the one I mentioned.
It's like asking how long a couple stays in love!
