Iran will respond by attacking US ships in the Persian Gulf and bases on the opposite side (Qatar, etc) with missiles, and send more help to insurgents in Iraq. Results are Iran's nuclear facilities destroyed, quickly if it goes well or slowly after weeks of re-strikes. The US will have some bases hit, as in the first war with Iraq. Also some planes shot down if the Iranians new missiles are any good. Ship losses could be anything from a few destroyers and frigates damaged, to an entire carrier group sunk. If Saudi Arabia joins in, it's oil shipping ports could also be attacked by missiles. Once they are on fire, oil prices will be high 6 months at least. Israel could be bombarded, with or without actually contributing forces (again like the 1991 gulf war)

GOOD QUESTION! We all know by now USA is famous for bullying and intimidating other counteries.Go thru the history and u will see they were practically involved in many wars.USA hv the habit of interfering into other counteries'affairs even when they hv their own problems yet to be resolved(Eg:Iraq).
This time IRAN will not let US tell them what to do.If a war do unfortunately starts,USA WILL be in BIG trouble.! Of course IRAN will fight back w/o any hesitation..Thousands if not millions will die as a result and at the same time, Osama Bin Ladin and co will take this opportunity to attack US..So USA isnt so powerful afterall! There's no doubt USA have plenty of enemies Many innocent ppl will be affected. The moral of the story...dont be a busybody or bully..what goes around comes around.

If the U.S. attacked Iran, Ahmadinejad would get what he deserves. This war would be faught by the push of a button though, not with so many troops.
1. Iran would not be able to respond much as I believe we would probably blow up their military infrastructure before they have a chance to.
2. No more regional than Iraq and Afghanistan are. Obviously, no administration/state-military in the middle east wants to take on the U.S. as evidenced by Iraq/Afganistan
3. Ahmadinejad: gone/out of power
Nuclear ambitions: destroyed
Fanatic islamic extremists: even more pissed

Iran is a very power full country, Iran calls USA the great Satan. USA if you look at the history he always attack countries which are less power full them him. USA is always putting the nose in others people business, I don't think USA will attack Iran, because we will loose, China, and Russia are backing up Iran. USA is just barking...

1. Iran would respond by attacking Israel and sending terrorists to the US.
2. It would probably stay regional in the short-term. We might be able to build a coalition, depending upon who is president and how well s/he could put one together.
3. It depends on if Iran has nukes yet.

With democrates in control of the houses, I don't think that is a possibility for the time being. Besides, Iraq is already 'out of control' and the situation in Afghanistan is worsening - Attacking Iran will be the final nail in the coffin for the Administration and for the US as a powerful & respected nation.

It would cause a far greater mess than the U.S. finds itself in with Iraq. the price of gas in the western natiions would skyrocket, and the economy would be crippled. There would be much hatred against the U.S. for attacking a soverign nation.
