I still can't believe people are saying Wicca predates Christianity!LOL! It was created circa 1950 by Gerald Gardner! LOL! Christianity is much older!

Adian Kelly wrote a book on the history of Wicca called "Crafting The Art of Magic" in the 1980's. Wiccans had a fit when it was published, and pressured Llewellyn to take it out of print. It was supposed to be the first in a series of books. I think Adian Kelly probably summed it up best when he said this about the Gardnerian "Book of Shadows", the closest thing Wicca has to a sacred book:

" [M]any of the Book of Shadows rituals did not exist in 1954 (when Witchcraft Today was published) but instead were still being written. [T]he major sources from which the rituals had been constructed included: (a) Mather's edition of the Greater Key of Solomon; (b) Aleister Crowley's Magic in Theory and Practice; (c) Leland's Aradia (d) some Masonic rituals akin to those described by Duncan and those of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (aside from those transmitted by Crowley; and (e) Margaret Murray's The Witch Cult in Western Europe. There were also bits and pieces from other works by Leland, Jane E. Harrison, Gilbert Murray, James Frazier, and other great classicists from the 19th century. That accounted for EVERYTHING in the rituals! There was nothing left that differed in any important way from what you can find in those sources- - but that is NOT at all what Gardner had claimed!"

Wiccans do not worship Satan, although it isn't unheard of some Wiccans to "dabble" (I'll brand them "fluffy bunnies" and save time). Someone asked a question on Satanism a few months ago, and it seemed about as many Wiccans answered as Satanists.

Satanism and Wicca are actually 2 different things. Wicca actually goes back to the 1950's and was started by Gerald Gardner, a disciple of Aleister Crowley. According to Adian Kelly in the book Crafting the Art of Magic, Gardner started it as a way to be tied up and beaten by strong willed women (he was a nudist and masochist).

Wicca is based on beliefs of ancient Europeans before the Christian invasion. We don't acknowldge Absolute evil in any form, let alone a made up boogeyman from the Christians. The Christians predecessors, the Jews don't believe in Satan. The myth of Satan came from the Church's need to scare people into not leaving the Church.

Wicca has nothing to do with Christianity. The only similarities come from those elements that Christianity has stolen from Ancient Paganism, for example Christmas, Easter, and most other Christian holidays are based on the Ancient Pagan Practices which Wicca has been founded upon.

You know, I am not real familiar with Wicca as a belief, but I once worked with a warlock, who told me that the Wiccan lifestyle was not where they worship Satan or anything like that. He told me that there are witches and warlocks, but not like you think. It is more like a peaceful way of looking at the world, and they hold older people up with high esteem and revere them because they see them as very wise. They believe that whatever you do to someone will come back to you, so you shouldn't be mean to someone else because that meanness will only be returned to you. They also have festivals of sorts when it is Summer Solstace, I believe. They are about respecting one another and allowing people the freedom to "be". I am a Christian and he was a former Mormon High Priest who became a Wiccan. You can imagine the interesting conversations we had at work. Neither one of us agreed with the other's beliefs, but we agreed to respect each other's rights to believe as we wished to.

No, Wicca and Satanism are totally different, although their symbols look similar. I used to work with a guy who had (I thought) a pentagram on his necklace. I asked him if he was a Satanist but he said no, he was a Wiccan. Satanists sacrifice animals and humans and do everything that is against Jesus and/or God. They like to be difficult.

There is a large population of Satanists in California, they run the whole town (I forget the name, my one friend almost got sacrificed by them-they liked her platinum blonde hair for some reason. They were giving her drugs that were actually slow acting poison, luckily she got away in time). Wiccans don't perform sacrifices.

Wicca and Satanism are 2 thoroughly diverse faiths, both one among which have a lot diverse viewpoints. you've probable heard this on the grounds that some small-minded human beings imagine that any faith except their own should be evil.

Wicca can be very ecclectic, mixing in with other beliefs and using a blend of 'what works'.
I have known baptist-wiccans, christian-wiccans, and buddist-wiccans. Most Wiccans do not believe in the existance of 'Satan' but do believe in evil.

no,Wiccans do not even believe in satan that he even exists.so for one enlightment soul to not believe in satan exists how could this be true that the witch or wiccan worship satan?as for myself,i am a witch and believe on the earth religion of the Wiccan Path.i live up to my Goddess' words.my Goddess is not satan,or satan's daughter,or his mate.i do not even believe that satan is real.he is just a spirit thought up of the Roman christians in the beginning of time.i feel that we are entitled to believe what we want,or feel, and that we should give the other religions respect also.i feel that the christians are suppose to be of THEIR God,and they worship their own God,and go to church and have prayer meetings,as for me,this is not my path, but i respect the christians' path of their beliefs.i cannot change nobody to go to the path that i lead, nor would i make them.they should enter the earth with the love from their heart and with the respect from the Mother Goddess Earth.i hope to all christians that reads this, that they see the light in my eyes that i have no hard feelings towards them and hope that us Wiccans and christians can have peace in this forum.may the Goddess be with you all in your hearts, minds, souls, and bodies.
Blessed be,

To my understanding, no. They dont believe in satan or god. But, often different wiccans believe different things, just like christians, how many christian faiths are there? Ask this person not what thier religion is, but what they believe. It might be a question maybe that you might pefer to be asked instead of what your religion is, since you dont have one.

the wiccan religion pre dates Christianity. so your answer is no they don't have anything to do with Christianity or satanism ..which didn't (satanism) come into existence until Christianity became prevalent. in other words satanism did not exist until Christianity did. it is the practice of the opposites of Christan symbolism..hence the crucifix being reversed as its symbol
