Of course you would immediately call 911. If you have a gun you should have it in your hand. If it turns out to be a friend and the police come they will have to suffer the consequences of their practical joke.

keep your doors shut and locked and call 911...there is no good reason for anyone to hide their identity any time day or night when knocking on a door.
