ive thrown crickets in for him and he doesnt go after them like he usually does, the monitor is a year old and last night i took a hopper/mouse and put it in there with him, as soon as he grabbed it to kill it the mouse turned around and bit him.
now he is avoiding the food that i give him, including crickets.
i killed the mouse at first and put it next to him but he turns his head away.
does anybody know what i should do?
:(
besides taking him to a vet.

He'll get hungry enough to eat, not to worry, just keep in mind live rodents, although fun to watch as they're being torn apart, aren't necessarily the best food for your monitor if you want something that you can handle further down the road. Prekilled or stunned at the very least eliminates the need to hunt and thus cuts down a bit on aggression.

This is the number one reason why you should feed prekilled/frozen mice. Not only can it be tramatic on the monitor, but it can cause him health problems if the bites get infected, or other complications. Get frozen mice, thaw them in warm water and then use tongs to tease the monitor into taking it. Now that it is afraid, it may take awhile. Try to give it just crickets until it starts to eat normally again and then try the mice.

You should give him frozen pre killed food to avoid this from happening again. And if he doesn't get better take it to a VET!
