When was Metallurgy first discovered. What is the general process? Why were American Indians not aware of it

the first metals that were discovered, were pure metal, like copper, silver, gold,and tin, this was all mined, then smelted, but because the metal in its pure form is very soft, and it wasn't untill the two metal tin and copper were combined that it became useful. The American Indians were for most of their history nomads, they follower their food, they were never settlers untill they were put on resiverations by the invaidors of this country, who were by the way seeking Gold. The Indians knew about gold, they just never had any use for it, so why carry some thing from one palce to the other because it looks pretty. it had no practical application in the Native Indian daily life

Metallurgy was discovered in the Copper Age about 4300 years ago in the Middle East or possibly Eastern Europe. After the Copper Age came the Bronze Age. Copper was mostly used to make axes and decorative items. Gold was another metal that was used in the copper age because it was easy to work with.

The American Indians did use some metal - gold. Gold is not useful for tools though and this is why they did not use it except for decorative and ceremonial items.

Ancient people in Europe discovered that they could smelt copper ore (copper sulfide, copper oxide, copper carbonate) with chasrcoal to produce copper. So they made copper knives, swords, and tools. Later people, still in the ancient world discovered that they could melt tin with copper to make bronze. They made bronze knives and swords, introducing the Bronze Age. The Greeks and Trojans who fought the Trojan war were in the Bronze Age. Later, people learned to make fires that were so hot that they coulfd smelt iron. That was the beginning on the Iron Age. The Indians of the Americas never learned about bronze or iron.
