The advice given above is only true if you still have the factory default settings. You can restore your router to default settings by holding down the reset button for at least 5 seconds.

But it would help to know
1) Which linksys router you have
2) Are you trying to connect wired or wireless
3) What shows up in your browser when you go to the gateway IP

Make sure you are connected with an ethernet cable and not wirelessly. You didn't say if it was a wireless router, but most wireless routers won't let you access the admin page wirelessly unless you've set that option. That is, the very first time you access the admin page, you have to be connected while hardwired. If you then set the option to connect to the admin page wirelessly (which can be a possible security hole), you can connect wirelessly after that first time.

Hmmmm.

By default you should be able to access the router's web interface at http://192.168.1.1

Have you tried resetting the router? Unplug it, wait 30 seconds then plug it back in.

you might try re-installing the software...but I believe in the manual it tells you or maybe in the installation (read me file) on how to access your router...I myself have a belkin router and for me to access it by typing in internet explorers browser I type it like 198.168.2.0 and that puts me on the configuration page of the router.......most are like that see if that helps ya.......
