Billy Holiday was an Afro American woman with a fabulous voice (IMHO).
Despite widespread racism in those days (the 40s and 50s) she managed to get quite famous all over the world.

She was an American jazz singer who lived a very troubled life. Diana Ross acted in her Biography in a movie entitled, "Lady Sings the Blues" (very sad)

She was a singer in the 60's and had a tragic life which ended when she was young. From an overdose or something I think. Sang blues I think.
