I was invited to a birthday party by a work mate that had only been at our workplace for a week. All my other friends were invited, from work, and told me that they were definately going. None of them showed up, and I was left at the party (trying to do the right thing by welcoming the new girl) full of complete strangers, I tried to make conversations with some people but they were really rude, and just started talking to other relatives of theirs. I just left as soon as I could, it was so uncomfortable. Incidently the "new" girl turned out to be a cow, just like the rest of her family.

I've been in a similar situation. At my school, we have a retreat for junior and senior students and we're put into groups with about five other people. After the retreat, our group decided to have a sleepover, held at a girl's house with whom, even though we spen the retreat together, I wasn't really good friends with, and we were still awkward around each other.
Well, the day of the sleepover, everyone bailed except me. I had to spend the night at the girl's house and it was one of the most awkward things I'd ever done. I was so glad when morning came so I could get out of there!
The only good thing about awkward experiences, like yours, is that they make funny stories once you've gotten over them.
