I fried my raw couscous a little too long and the burner was a little too hot and I forgot to stir. Now I have charcoal black dots all over the bottom. I don't want to use a scouring pad as I'll scratch it up. Are there any "non-invasive" methods to get my pot sparkling clean again?

This may sound odd, but it does work. Put enough water in the bottom to cover all the marks, and drop a fabric softener sheet in the water. Put a lid on it and let it sit at room temperature overnight. Then try washing it with a nylon scrubber. The marks usually come out right away.

1. Put a couple of tablespoons of Baking Soda in the pot and add about an inch of water. Then heat the water to boiling. Use a wooden cooking spoon to scrape off the gunk.
2. Use Bon-Ami and a cotton wash cloth.
You may have to use both methods one after the other to get it all nice and sparkling again.

Easy Off oven cleaner will do the job. It will be OK to use on stainless steel but don't use it on copper pots or aluminum. It also works good on most stove tops. Just spray it in the sink and let it set for about 30 min. and then scrub. Works every time for me.
