Ironically, the concept of being "different" typically only leeds to you becoming like others that are also "different." For example, the goth movement wants to be separate from those outside of the movement, which I fully support. However, all goths wear predominantly black, meaning they share a collective "different."

The recent "emo" phase has seen it's time, and those adopting its premise all look relatively the same. They all exhibit slack hair, nice clothes worn shabbily, and listen to the same type of music.

Perhaps there is no place for labels when it comes to individuality. Once you identify yourself with a movement, whether you physically exhibit it or not, you will typically be grouped into the perception of others that share you association.

Wear what you want. Don't worry about whether or not it's emo.

Good for you.

I was Goth in the 80's (well ok, also a Biker) and have been off and on over the years. We did not have a dress code... we wore what we wished. There was no mold, there was no Hot Topic.

If Goth is anything like what it was, it was NOT following the crowd. Following the crowd was very UN Goth.

Also... while I did not dress "punk" or any of that lot in the 70's, I associated with punks and listened to the music. I cannot imagine anyone telling a 70's punk how to dress. The result would be a string of curses and a raised middle finger.

Wear what you want. It is not about your "look" anyway.

Punks were not emo or goth. Emos and goths are pathetic bltches who whine about how much they hate their parents. Punks had parents who gave them heroin to OD on while they were out on bail for killing their girlfriend.
