Every time I create a list with

s embedded in other
s there's a huge gap (like a line break), between the
• in the first
  and the first
  • in the second
    ...how do I make this go away? I remember reading somewhere you could do that but I can't remember where.

You could use the depricated COMPACT parameter to the UL tag, but most people don't use that any more.
