I am going through sandal withdrawal and I cannot wait till spring to wear them outside. Is it safe to wear sandals or flip flops in the winter when its cold? If their some long term effect of having your bare feet in real cold temperatures?

Where do you live? As long as its not cold enough to get frostbite you should be okay. But remember your feet, hands and head keep in body heat and help you stay warm.
If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area or weather like it you could wear flip flops all year round.

As long as the toes are not getting uncomfortably cold even without an actual risk of frostbite, go ahead and wear the flip flops if it's not raining or snowing.

People who say no because it's winter are flat out STUPID. You can wear sandals ANY time of the year. If your freezing then don't do it, but I wore sandals in WA state where it rained all year long and got into the snow weather. I loved my sandals. Many many people do it. It's been getting down to 20 here at night and I still wear them. If you do it though make sure you keep your feet moisturized at night w/cotton socks on because you'll get really bad cracked feet from the cold air if you don't. Hope that helps! :)

You have to ask yourself if its safe to not wear gloves in the winter. Feet will act just like your hands. If they get cold put on shoes. If there not cold - wear what ever you want. I have gone barefoot in the winter and lived to tell the tale. Just pay attention to what your bode tells you so you don't get frostbite.

If you get frost bite, yes. What do you consider 'real cold temperature'?
In my area, it's 15 degrees at night, and I wouldn't want to miss my insulated boots.
However, when I lived in Phoenix, I wore flip flops year-round.
Just pay attention to how your toes are feeling and don't let them get frozen.

you can where flip flops whenever you want. i really don't know who would want to expose their feet in bare cold winter though. nothing will happen. worst thing that could happen is you'll get really dry skin on your feet b/c of the cold.

I'm going to be frank and blunt. You are an idiot if you are going to wear flip flops in the winter. It's called winter for a reason-because it's f*ck1ng cold! In the winter you wear boots, and coats. Not flip flops and t shirts with a scarf.

Flip flops are a bad idea for winter. They don't have enough traction if you have ice or snow conditions. And they don't keep your feet warm.
It's just not practical or smart to wear them in the winter.

unless you have some blood circulation problem then i dont think there is any real danger to doing that. assuming you dont mind walkin around without any feeling in your toes. and it will dry your feet out.
but i dont see why you would want to do this. just wait, there are plenty of cute shoes that keep your feet warm. also, in my opinion, people tend to look stupid when they wear clothes inappropriate for the weather.
