I think an associate's degree is a terrific place to start your education. I attended a private women's two year college and got my AA and transferred right away into a Bachelor's program at a larger college.
Getting my associate's at a smaller college offered me smaller classes in a much more personal setting than a larger school. I had the opportunity to take leadership positions in various clubs, as well as the student newspaper. Not many college sophomores get that type of experience. I found I was well prepared for transferring to the four year program and was energized my last two years of school, rather than burned out like my counterparts in my bachelor's program who had been doing the same thing year after year. Did I mention the great graduation party and gifts after only two years of college, plus another graduation party with gift two years later?
By the way, I am now an administrator at that small women's college. That is how strongly I believe in the power of an associate's degree. My college even offers each student a free trip to Europe, maid service, and a five star chef. You can't beat it!
Good luck with your education!

It is NOT a waste of time to get an associates degree. It shows a level of dedication and attainment and is a qualifier for many jobs.
But using it as a stepping stone to a bachelor's is even better. The bachelor's is the entry level degree required for many well paying positions today. (You may not like it, but that’s reality.)
So get all the education you can. It will pay dividends both in terms of the number of jobs for which you are qualified as well as the money you will earn. (And knowledge is about the only thing the government can’t take away from you.)

Associate degree curriculum trains you for a specific job/industry. Look at the statistics. Right out of school you'll make more than your bachelor degree counterparts. However, the stats say people with bachelor degrees make more in the long run.
My 2-point Yahoo! Answers opinion: get your associates degree, get a good job, and let that good job pay for your bachelor degree.
Whatever you do, keep going to school! Look up statistics on high school diplomas vs. any higher education (it's really sad).

It depends on what the degree is in. Some professions only require an associate's. However, if it is in an area that will require a bachelor's or higher degree, it may be a waste of time.

It is never a waste of time to get a higher education. Many jobs, however, do require a bachelor's degree.
You should try to determine what it is that you want to do and then plan an educational path to get you there.
If you're not sure what you want to do, then begin by getting an associate's in whatever field interests you... but make sure your credits will transfer if you're doing this at community college as opposed to university.
It's entirely possible that within two years time, you will have found what it is that you really WANT to do and you'll already be part the way there. The first two years many courses are fairly general... so just get going in a direction and if you need to change your path, you can always do so at any time.
(My son started as a journalism major, took an elective he loved and wound up majoring in Administration of Criminal Justice) :)

I have a A.S. degree. Im an x-ray technologist. Yea people say you need a bachelor's degree(if you want to go into management). I also make 36 dollars an hour. The bachelor degree wouldn't make any diffrence in the rate of pay.

It never is a waste of time to get any education! I am opinion, associates is better because it requires less school, and you can still get paid pretty goood compared to bachelors. For professions like radiologist or x-ray tech, or MRI/CAT scan or sonography, you get paid a lot, and if you decided you want to go back to school, you can always do that to get your bachelors.
Hope that helps.

You can get some rewarding careers with an associate's degree. It doesn't matter what type of degree you have. I got a Bachelor's degree in Spanis & got nothing to show for it because I'm still not fluent in Spanish.

No. You improve your chances of getting a better job, even with just an AA.
And you can always go back to college later and get the BA.
