They both go to 60mph in less than 4 seconds. They both go over 190 MPH. The porsche has more advanced engineering and better gas mileage. The ferrari has slightly better handling. The Porsche is $130,000 and the ferrari F430 is over $200,000. I would say the Porsche 911 Turbo is the better car.

All have their own pros and cons, and in the end alot will come down to personal taste and driving style/preference. Both Porsche and Ferrari have long traditions of race inspired designs. Between the two Porsche is probably more appropriate for day to day use as the operating cost for any Ferrari can be quite high. The trade off on that is that Porsches will always seem more common - even if Ferrari sold the same number of units you'd still see them less often!

As for performance, both can be outstanding... and while I have more experience in tracking and racing Porsches, I will say that the Ferrari's have had the chance to drive in this way have always been exceptionally built and responsive cars.

As to comments on some of the other options mentioned here. The Corvette Z06 certainly offers alot of bang for the buck, but it does come with a couple trade offs. As with the Porsche, it will lack some of the exclusivity of the Ferrari (and the Porsche for that matter). And while the current generation is much improved, the chasis development on the Corvette is still lagging way behind the others. And lastly, even though the Corvette easily represents GM's best in terms of fit and finish and build quality, it's not in the same league as anything else mentioned here.

As for the Ford GT - it's hard to say too much negitive about this car! It's fast, beautiful, and a wonderful reminder of the GT40. However, I do have some questions regarding the design quality and/or build quality. There have been some suprising recall issues and service notices for this car. Also, the one time I've seen an example of this car at the track: it looked fast and was turning good times, but it ended the day on a flatbed because it's exhaust wound up meltinga good chunk of rear body work! The fact that a car like this would have this kind of problem after about 40 minutes of open lapping is shameful!

For a car the will offer the best performance, while still offering around town usability: Porsche. For just performance, cutting edge technology, and something very few others have: Ferrari (the Ford GT could be considered here too... though if you plan to actually drive the car at the limit at the track, it seems like Ferrari would be the only choice here). To get great performance with less capital outlay: Corvette.

The best supercar is the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, eventhough the base corvette is of better value compared to the "imports".
