I've crocheted since i was about 8 and i havent ever hear it called this, but i think its what i'm thinkin of. It's where you pull up a loop from the "back" part of the loop, instead of the "front".

when you're looking at the hole you're going to put your next stitch in, there should be a front loop and a back loop, in basic crochet you work into both of these, in more complex patterns you can work into only the front or back loop to create a more intricate design.
