The battery light on my citroen ax comes on when car just starts (idle speed) and when i stop at lights etc.It goes out as soon as i move off and during normal driving but flashes when i turn the ignition on and off. It is lit dimly when the car is driving at low speeds and bright when car is first started.I had the alternato checked today and its fine.Any ideas

Get the alternator belt, earth straps and battery checked as soon as possible.

Who told you the alternator is fine? Get it tested again just to be sure, you could even do this yourself with a cheap multimeter.

If the battery, belt and alternator are all in good working order then the fault is probably a bad engine earthing strap or loose battery connections.

If the light eventually stays fully on for the first mile or so it is almost certainly the diode in the alternator. At present it could be several things,

Take your car to a garage and ask them to check all the earth on the car, your batter, the fan belt and the alternator. Good luck.

I wouldnt worry about it. French cars are notorious for having rubbish electronics, every time i used to get in my renault a different light used to come on on the dash, just used to ignore it.

either ur battery is knackered or ure alternator needs replaced or tightened up
