I went to my doctor in July 06 for the sensation of fullness in my ear. They told me that I had a severe wax build up and proceeded to syringe this out (several times with alot of force) to no avail. They referred me to a specialist. The specialist removed the wax via an instrument while I watched on the monitor. The specialist pointed out the blood and tearing of surrounding membranes from the syringing my doctor did. The removal took all of 5 min. Two weeks after this incident, I lost all hearing in the affected ear. As of date I have not been able to hear. I called the specialist back and reported the loss. He did a series of test and concluded that the loss would not be reversed. He did not indicate to me the reason for the initial loss. Is this just cause for a lawsuit? I am not out to "get" someone. But was my original doctor negligent in the syringing process? If so, should this process of syringing not be allowed. What are your thoughts on this matter?

To sexytroj... FYI I do clean my ears daily with a Q-Tip and thats what has caused the wax impaction.. Dont believe me? Ask your doctor what the most common cause of wax build up is... .. Hint: He/She will tell you Q-Tips.

You should have been cleaning your ears!

That is so disgusting! How long had you gone without a Q-Tip or wash cloth in your ears to create that much wax????

I wouldn't even tell anyone about that.

Without a specialist willing to state that one action had the result you're experiencing, you have no chance of convincing a jury that the syringing was the cause. You went in for a problem with your ear wax buildup. It is just as plausible (the defense attorney will argue) that your wax buildup was an indication that your hearing was degenerative.

The fact that you could hear after the syringing and not after the later procedure will work against any case you are trying to build against the first doctor.

I wish I could be more optimistic. This must be very hard for you. Good luck.

I doubt very much you'll be able to prove causation. If you'd lost your hearing at the time they syringed the ear, you'd probably have a case. But the original doctor could argue it was as a result of the second doctor's treatment, or an entirely coincidental infection. You will not win.

Make an appointment with a personal injury lawyer and see what he or she thinks. If you could hear before you went to the first doctor, the lawyer will probably want copies of your medical records which will be reviewed by an expert. If I were you, I would follow through on this.

Go back to your doctor and ask why this happend to you. It doesnt matter if your "out" to get somebody or not. If he did cause your hearing to be impaired he should pay for what he did wrong.

not trying to bash Dr's. but now days i think all lot of them r there for the paycheck only and not the care of the patient. There is this Dr. where I'm from that is in jail now for killing two of his patients by giving them a wrong kind of shot.. So to answer your question yes i would sue him for not knowing what he was doing maybe you can save someone Else's hearing..

I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to say that ABSOLUTELY YES, the quack bastard needs to be sued. You lost your hearing due to his incompetence, and your lawsuit, win or lose, could help others avoid your fate.

Good luck! :)
